Growth of database with non mainstream programmes

During 2011 we upgraded our database and worked with our Credit Rating Bodies to ensure that we had as complete a record as possible. You can search our database here, where you will see a very wide range of organisations that have had their learning provision put on the Framework with a wide range of subjects. These are in addition to our mainstream qualifications such as Degrees, HNC/Ds and Highers. We now have around 1500 different qualifications or learning programmes from organisations including individual employers, third sector organisations and the NHS.

Leaflet for post-school learners

In 2006, the first version of Achievement Counts was published and sent out to every school in Scotland. Since then, we received feedback that it would be useful to have a similar leaflet but targeted at the post-school learner, so we produced  Realising your Potential in 2010.

RPL toolkit

In 2010 we launched our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) toolkit based on work done previously with the social care sector and the Scottish Social Services Council.  This new toolkit is generic and can be used in any sector and in any setting

Wider achievement

During 2010-11 we worked with a wide range of youth related organisations to support them on having some programmes credit rated.  All of these programmes either fit well with the outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence or have been developed to support young people potentially furthest away from mainstream education:

•    Rathbone UK (One Life programme) credit rated at SCQF level 3 and 16 credit points
•    Outward Bound (Adventure and Challenge Award) credit rated at SCQF level 5 with 5 credit points
•    Quality Scotland (Planning & Undertaking a Young Quality Scot Experience) credit rated at SCQF level 5 with 5 credit points
•    Youth Scotland (Dynamic Youth Awards) Submission is ongoing
•    Duke of Edinburgh (DoE Leadership) Submission is ongoing
•    Rural & Urban Training Scheme (Motolearn)  Submission is ongoing
•    Sports Leaders UK (Qualification in Sports Leadership) credit rated at SCQF level 4 with 7 credit points

Schools Toolkit

With regard to embedding of SCQF within Curriculum for Excellence, we also developed a toolkit for schools during 2011, which helps teachers to understand how the Framework can be used to support young people, particularly in understanding their learning pathways and how it can be used as a tool to support the recognition of wider achievement.
